About the Graduate School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

Master’s Course

Food Innovation Division

Food Innovation Division focuses on issues of production, distribution, processing and consumption of foods, and promotes education and research to solve the issues from aspects of natural science and technology and social sciences.

Food Business Management Field

This field covers education and research to explore and resolve the issues related to food and the industry primarily from management perspectives.

Food Technology Development Field

This field covers education and research concerning  the quest for high-value-added products such as highly functional foods and the development of food for the elderly, from scientific and technological perspectives.

Agriculture and Environmental Innovation Division

Agriculture and Environmental Innovation Division focuses on issues of food material supplying industries (agriculture, livestock production and fisheries) and rural/ coastal communities, as well as environmental issues related to the industries, and the promotion of education and research to tackle the issues.

Farm Management Field

This field covers education and research on science and biotechnology in food production, and on managerial issues of local agriculture, to lead in the promotion of agriculture in each region.

Environmental Management Field

This field covers education and research on environmental and energy issues that are emerging in the agriculture and food industries or in rural and coastal regions.

Doctoral Course

This program consists of two divisions: Food Research Division and Agricultural and Environmental Research Division. Both divisions correspond to almost the same area of expertise as of the Food Innovation Division and the Agriculture and Environmental Division of the Master’s Program, respectively.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to make advances in education, research and social activities of food and agriculture and their environments in all the process from production to processing, distribution, food services and consumption.

Educational Objectives

Master’s Course

Our educational objective is to develop students’ excellence in abilities for research and development and advanced knowledge to become a researcher/ a highly specialized professional in the field of food, agricultural and environmental sciences.

Doctoral Course

Our educational objective is to educate our students to bean autonomous researcher in the field of food, agricultural and environmental sciences, or a skilled coordinator who can take leadership in the formation of industrial clusters between agriculture, commerce and industry, or an executive business leader with expert knowledge and research methods.

Features of education / Graduate School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

Master’s Course

Our program offers educational opportunities such that:

(1) Students can study the subjects of each specialized field of food industry and sciences through lectures on basic theories, lectures and exercises on practical problem solving, and case methods.

(2) Students can gain a comprehensive perspective about food industry and the food, agricultural and environmental sciences, through the lecture titled “Research Methods for Food Industry Studies” which is compulsory for first year master’s course students.

(3) Students have an alternative to complete the master’s course by submitting a report on the “Project Research” instead of submitting a master’s thesis.

Doctoral Course

Our program has educational features such that:

(1) Students can get individual tutorials by main- and sub- academic supervisors in the student’s major, and overall advice by all staff in charge of the Doctoral Program.

(2) Individual tutorial by the main- and sub- academic supervisors starts immediately after admission focusing on the research theme of the individual student.

(3) The overall advice system includes an annual interim report meeting on the doctoral research where instruction is received from professors with specialties in the various fields of food, agricultural and environmental sciences.

Admission Policy / Graduate School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

The Master’s Course in the Graduate School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences accepts individuals who seek to possess knowledge and experience in the food industry, and to apply and enhance that knowledge and skill in their field of expertise.
The Doctoral Courses in the Graduate School of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences accepts individuals who, based on their knowledge and experience in the food industry, have a strong willingness to unlock the frontiers of that knowledge and skill in their field of expertise.
