授業概要

Through active learning, students will be challenged to read, think, and develop nuanced and knowledgeable opinions about the most important issues facing humanity. Each class will deal with a different issue: ex. religion, politics, economics, war and peace, hunger, global warming, diplomacy, international business, terrorism, global health, gender. Class time will feature homework review, lectures, and group work.

50% weekly homework, 35% final examination, 15% classroom participation

Students must take Global Studies I before Global Studies II.

事前・事後学修

Preparing for each class will require students to read and digest a selected text in English about each topic, answer reading comprehension questions about the text, and submit their answers digitally. Attendance in this class is encouraged for students who are interested in studying overseas either short-term or long-term. A TOEIC score close to 500 is recommended. Class lectures are conducted in English and students should want to improve their listening comprehension. Though the class does not have an emphasis on spoken English, all students will be encouraged to speak in English in the class.

Students must be able to access the Internet each week to participate in this class.
